A special feature article of Christmas ~the illuminations~

At Christmas, what makes you excited? Presents? Santa Claus? Or Christmas dinners and cakes? They are all fascinating, but the most charming thing would be the illuminations. Then, I will pick up some illuminations of Japan and the world.

1;The Christmas tree of Rockefeller Center

The tree-lighting ceremony was held on 4th December, 2013. The Rockefeller Center was built at 5th avenue in Manhattan in 1933 by John・D・Rockefeller who was a multimillionaire in America. The height of tree is about 26 meters and it needs about three million LED lights. This is a traditional event of New York that has been held since 1933. Every year, many tourists visit there from all over the world to watch this tree-lighting ceremony.

2;Christmas markets

This is started from the last ten days of November in various countries. In open spaces of cities, mainly the ornaments of trees, candles, or toys are sold. The food wagons, for example cookies, burned sausages, or hot wines, are also charming. The cities are brightly decorated with illuminations, and street stalls are shining like a jewel box.

3;Huis ten Bosch in Nagasaki

A kingdom of light, “Hikari no Okoku” uses more than 10million’s light bulbs, and it is one of the largest in the world. Every year, there are some surprising shows, for example, a 3D illumination and a rink fantasia which changes light reflections with gliding. Many visitors come there to see surprising shows.

4;Tokyo Midtown

“Starlight Garden” is held at Tokyo Midtown Roppongi, and this year is seventh time. The fantastic illumination based on blue spreads over a large square of the grass. It is also wonderful to watch it with Tokyo Tower which can be seen from the Midtown’s building.

5;Yebisu Garden Place

“Baccarat ETERNAL LIGHTS ~the form of pleasure~” in Yebisu got the first prize of the illumination popular ranking of Yahoo!. One of the greatest in the world, the baccarat chandelier is main and trees shining golden-colored stand in a row. The ten meters Christmas tree makes a pair with the chandelier, and it makes fantastic Yebisu Garden Place.

クリスマスでは、あなたは何に心を弾ませるだろう。プレゼント？サンタさん？はたまたクリスマスディナーやケーキ？どれも魅力的だが、一番皆が心をときめかせるのは何といってもイルミネーションだろう。では、ここでは世界や日本のイルミネーションを紹介していこう。

ロックフェラーセンターのクリスマスツリー２０１３年は１２月４日に点灯式が行われた。ロックフェラーセンターとは、アメリカの大富豪ジョン・Ⅾ・ロックフェラーによって１９３０年に建設されたものであり、ニューヨークのマンハッタン５番街にある。ツリーの高さはおよそ２６ｍであり、使用されているLEDは約３万個。１９３３年から続くニューヨークの伝統行事である。毎年この点灯式を見に多くの観光客が世界から集まってくる。

クリスマスマーケット１１月下旬から始まる世界各国で始まるクリスマスマーケット。街の広場で主にツリーの飾りやロウソク、おもちゃが売られている。クッキーや焼きソーセージ、ホットワインなどの屋台も魅力のひとつ。街はイルミネーションで彩られ、宝石箱のように露店が輝いています。

ハウステンボス（長崎）１０００万個以上の電球を使った「光の王国」は世界最大級。３Ⅾのイルミネーションショーやスケートリンクでの滑走の動きに合わせて光の映像が変化するリンクファンタジアなど、例年驚きのショーを見に沢山の観光客が訪れます。

東京ミッドタウン今年で７年目を迎える「スターライトガーデン」。広大な芝生の広場に青をベースカラーにした幻想的なイルミネーションが広がります。ミッドタウンのビルから見える東京タワーとともにイルミネーションを眺めるのも素敵です。

恵比寿ガーデンプレイスYahoo!の全国イルミネーション人気ランキング１位にもなった、恵比寿の「Baccarat ETERNAL LIGHTS―歓びのかたち―」。世界最大級のバカラシャンデリアをメインに金色に光り輝く木々が立ち並ぶ。高さ１０ｍのツリーもシャンデリアと対をなして幻想的な恵比寿ガーデンプレイスとなっている。
