The story is set in the age of the Joseon Dynasty, which is the era of King Lee, founded in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. One day, the King and Dong Yi were both hiding, and they hid in the same place. In the beginning, without knowing that Sukjong was the King, she talked to him frankly. He liked her character, and the two people gradually developed a loving relationship. The story proceeds in an unexpected direction when she met a man called Chan. Chan recommends Dong Yi to the lady officer of the royal court, and receives help from Sukjong. At first, Chan was a kind person, but she gradually becomes a villain. Dong Yi was seriously opposed to Chan getting promoted to royalty.

トンイは父と兄を亡くし、母がいなかったので、幼少の頃から奴婢として都で雑用係をしていました。そこでの生活は、必ずしも辛いとだけでなく、楽しいこともありました。彼女の運命を握る、最も重要なのは王スクチョンとの出会いです。彼はトンイと同じこの物語の主役であり、この出会いは彼女に大成功をもたらしました。ある日、二人はある同じ場所に隠れていました。始めトンイは王様だということを知らず、気軽に話しかけます、その性格がスクチョンは気に入ったらしく、二人は次第に恋愛関係に発展していくことになりました。そして、チャン氏との出会いによって物語は思わぬ方向に発展していきます。チャン氏はトンイを宮廷女官に推薦してくれます。チャン氏は始めの頃は親切でしたが、だんだん悪者になっていきます。チャン氏とトンイは王室のなかで、権力を巡って対立していきました。
