UniX The Group of The Internet Literacy

Incidents concerning SNS(Social Network Systems) are reported by the press almost every day. A store was shut down because a high school student posted photos on Twitter of him in the cooler box crushing the ice cream in it. Another high school student posted photos of her drinking beer on Twitter and got expelled.

However, the Internet is not the tool which limits our possibility but extends it.Student Group UniX which won the contest of student groups last summer, lectures the Internet literacy for elementary, junior high, high school, and university students. They do not teach that “the Internet is dangerous” because the theme of UniX is the possibility of children who will be maximized by using the Internet. Then, how does UniX teach them and what is the correct use of the Internet?

Q; What types of activities do you do?

A;We UniX have lectured the Internet literacy to 80 schools in all parts of Japan for three years.Now, many junior high school students use social network services like Twitter and Facebook. Then we teach them how to use Internet effectively and teach what bad things are and the dangers of being seen.

Q; Do you do the same things in all the schools?

A;No, every time we make new presentation materials, for each school for instance the presentation on cheating for junior high school student and on job hunting for university student. In one school, we taught Facebook effectually and let the students do it. Also, we teach a lesson ever week for 10 weeks about Internet literacy in one school.

Q; Why did you start UniX?

A;First, our parent company GaiaX did the chair of underground web service for a school to teachers. Then, the teachers wanted GaiaX to tell their students about Internet literacy. GaiaX thought university students are best for the lecture because their age is close to the students.The education of Internet in school is negative. However, the Internet is familiar to our life and has many positive points for us. So, we want the young to be aware of the negative point of Internet as a matter of course, and we hope they use the Internet effectively for their future.

Q; How do you introduce the correct use of Internet?

A;We use the topics which students knew like Hyadain. Hyadain had broadcasted on NikoNiko Douga and became a singer. So far, people who want to become a singer have no choice but to promote their CDs to companies or sing on the street. So, the deal of Hyadain is the correct use of Internet. Also, in the lecture our member tells about how he had used Internet in the big earthquake in east Japan called 311. He contacted with his friend in Fukusima and joined a volunteer group by Internet.Then, we introduce Social Job hunting, means someone appeals himself on the Internet for getting a job.

Q; What will UniX do the next?

A;We won prize money for the contest in September, so we are going to spread our activity. Such as rebuilding our branch in Kansai area and we are to become NGO shortly. However, right now there are only eight members in UniX, so if someone is interested in UniX, please join us.

The Internet is not the tool which limits our possibility but extends it. Many people in the world expand their future by Internet. The young like you might want to learn about Internet literacy.

SNSによる不意のトラブルが報道によってほぼ毎日取りざたされている。あるお店は高校生がお店の冷蔵庫に入った画像をツイッターにポストしたことで潰れ、ある女子高生はお酒を飲んだ写真をツイッターに上げて退学になった。しかしながら、インターネットは私たちの可能性をせばめるものではなく、ひろげるものである。今年の学生団体コンテストで優勝をした団体Unixは全国の小中高大学生にネットリテラシー講座を開いている団体だ。ネットリテラシーと言っても「ネットは危険」という内容ではない。彼女たちの団体のテーマはネットを有効活用し子供の可能性を最大限に生かすこと。では彼女たちはなぜどのようにネットリテラシー講座をやっているのだろうか、また、その活用法はなんなのか。

どのような活動を今までしてきたのですか。

この３年間で全国80校でネットリテラシー講座をやってきました。いまや多くの中学生がツイッタ―やFBを使っている。だから、私たちは彼らに どこの学校でやるのも同じ内容なのですか。いえ、毎回その学校に合わせて新しいプレゼン資料をつくります。例えば、大学生には就活につなげて話したり、中学生にはカンニングペーパーにつなげたり。ある学校では実際に学生にFacebookの有効活用の仕方を教えて作るのを手伝ったり、1回きりの授業にするのではなく10回の講座を用いて段階的にやっていたりします。

どうしてこのような活動を始めたのですか。

きっかけは我々の親会社であるガイアックスが学校裏サイトについて講演を先生方にしていたことですが、若者にもっとネットを知ってもらうためには近い年齢の大学生がやるべきだという理由でUnixは生まれました。今の教育では、インターネットについてネガティブなことしか教えられませんLikeネチケット。でも、インターネットは私たちが常に身近にあるもので、もっとポジティブな部分も多いんです。そこで私たちは、ネットを使いトラブルに合わないようにする事は前提、当たり前になってほしい。そして、そのうえで私たちは子供たちにネットを有効活用して可能性を拡げてほしいんです。

どのように有効活用の方法を紹介するのですか

講座によって様々ですが身近に感じる例を使います。例えばヒャダインさんはニコニコ動画で配信をし、歌手作詞作曲家として売れました。これまで、歌手はCDを会社に売り込んだり、路上ライブをすることでなるものでしたが、これもまたネットの有効活用です。また、講座では、団体のメンバーが実際に3・１１の時にインターネットを通じて福島の友人の安否を確認したり、ボランティアに参加したことも紹介しました。昨年は、ソーカツ（ソーシャル就活）という方法、つまり、ネットで自分をアピールして就職の内定を取った人のニュースも大きく取り上げられました。私自身ネットでこのUnixを知り今ここにいます。

今後はどのような活動をしてきたいですか。

9月の大会の優勝賞金が入りましたので、活動を広げていきたいです。今度NGOとして正式に活動することも決まりましたし、関西支部の再建もしていきたいです。ただ、今メンバーが8人とすごく少ないので、少しでも私たちの活動に興味を持った方がいればメンバー募集中です。 インターネットは私たちの可能性をせばめるものではなく、ひろげるものだ。

多くの人がネットを使って自分の未来を拡げている。ネット社会に生きる皆さんもこの機会にネットリテラシーを見直してみてはどうだろうか、と旧メディアは語る。
