Shinkansen the popular way to travel

Shinkansen is a popular way to travel in Japan. Why do people choose it as a way to travel? First, the most populated cities in Japan are Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, and Nagoya. By shinkansen, you can go to Nagoya from Tokyo within two hours, and also to Osaka from Tokyo within three hours. It’s much easier to get on shinkansen compared to airplanes, since the stations are connected to local train lines. Even though many airports are connected to local train lines, you have to wait for airplanes. A shinkansen can hold more people and there are more numbers of trains compared to airplanes. Then why do people still use airplanes instead of shinkansen? It is because there are still places where there are no shinkansen or places where it is hard to get on it. It goes through Kagoshima to Aomori, but it does not go to the fifth largest city in Japan, Sapporo.

One of the rivals of shinkansen is the airplanes. When does the airplane beat shinkansen? When you are traveling for more than 3 hours, the airplane will beat shinkansen in time. Since you can get to Osaka from Tokyo within 3 hours, shinkansen is extremely useful in these areas which have the most population but the numbers of airplanes that go through only major cities are decreasing. In 2015, the Hokuriku shinkansen is planned to be opened and when that happens, the airplanes that go through Mount Fuji will be at a disadvantage. Talking about the future, what if the time of shinkansen shortens more and more? What if shinkansens gets more useful, will there be no airplanes flying in Japan? It’s really hard to think about the future without airplanes.

Another rival is highway buses. These buses can take you mostly anywhere you want to go to in Japan. The greatest advantages are the price and usefulness. It’s usually a lot cheaper than airplanes and shinkansen, and it has more comfortable seats and options. It takes more time than shinkansen and airplanes, so if you leave at night you can sleep in the bus and when you wake up, you can be at your destination. Then, can high speed buses beat shinkansen? The answer is no. Shinkansen can go faster, but the buses have a speed limit. Unless the speed limit changes for cars, it is impossible to beat shinkansen. Still, the buses are a popular way to travel in Japan for its cheap fare.

There is a possibility that there will be more places where you can go by shinkansen. The speed of shinkansen will become faster and faster, and it would become more useful, so shinkansen might become more popular, and it may be the only way to travel to far places in Japan.

新幹線の１つのライバルは飛行機である。いつ飛行機が新幹線に勝つのか？それはあなたが３時間以上移動しているときである、飛行機は時間とお金両方で新幹線に勝つ。大阪から東京まで３時間で行けるため、新幹線はそこらで非常に便利で、そこだけを通る飛行機は減少傾向にある。２０１５年には北陸新幹線が開通する予定でそれが起きたら、富士山を通過する飛行機に大打撃を与えることになるだろう。未来について話すと、もし新幹線がもっと早くなったらどうなるだろうか？もし新幹線がもっと便利になったらどうなるだろうか、日本で飛行機が飛ばなくなるのだろうか？飛行機がない未来はとても考えにくい。

他のライバルは高速バスである。このバスは日本で行きたい場所へ連れて行ってくれる。最大の利点は値段と利便性である。通常は新幹線や飛行機よりも値段が安く、いい席のオプションがある。新幹線と飛行機よりも時間がかかるため、夜出発すれば寝ることもでき、起きたら目的地につくことができる。それで、高速バスは新幹線に勝つことができるのだろうか？答えはいいえ。新幹線はもっと早くいけるがバスは速度制限がある、新幹線よりかなり遅いため勝つことは不可能である。しかし、安さのために日本ではまだ人気のある交通手段である。

結論は、新幹線でいけるようになる場所が増える可能性はある。新幹線の速度はより速くなる可能性があり、より便利になり、さらに人気になり、日本で唯一遠くへ行く交通手段になる可能性もある。
