Those Who Feel Pity about Obokata

Dose everyone remember this occurrence? April 9 2014 Haruko Obokata, 30-year-old science researcher, held an interview at the hotel in Osaka prefecture so that she could resort to the masses about STAP cells (Stimulus-Triggered Acquisition of Pluripotency cells). About 250 reporters surged into the place, which proves that Obokata is an eye-catching woman and a lot of people cast interesting eyes upon her. Curly hair and a navy blue dress, she is absolutely not different with Rikejo, that is a pretty woman scientist. In tearful eyes and voice,

“Since I was inattentive and immature, many doubts developed. I apologize to co-authors in Riken[Institute of Physical and Chemical Research] and many others sincerely.”　

“I look over my paper for the mistakes but it does not affect my conclusion.”

“I have been successful at making STAP cells more than 200 times.”

“STAP cells do exist (that is, her experiment result is correct) I will not take back my papers. I am confident of other researches succeeding in making STAP cells as well.” she said.

Investigating committee headed by Riken, on the contrary, found there was fabricated and altered date in her papers published in the Nature. The committee does not have confidence of STAP cells’ existence. That is why Obokata is opposed to Riken .

Incidentally many people might have had compassion on her and been enchanted because she seemed to break and be a frail girl due to perpetual coverage about her. Some regarded her as an anti-hero who was fighting bravely against the immense government-backed authorities “Riken”. Others looked on her as a tragic heroine who was at the mercy of mass communication. Even so, People should calmly watch this problem. Possibly, this series of trouble about STAP cells might drag on for several years. People should not make decisions by temporary feelings, in order to prudently reach a verdict. Riken budget stems from our tax. Therefore, the organization, including Obokata, is obliged to account for this matter. After all the inspection ends, it cannot be too late to deliver judgments, even some years later.

小保方博士に同情する人たち

こういう出来事覚えていますか。2014年4月9日30歳の研究者小保方晴子氏が大衆にstap細胞があることを主張するために大阪府で会見を開催しました。訳250人の記者が押し掛け、これは小保方氏が異彩を放っている人物であり、多くの人が彼女に関心があることを証明している。カールヘアーと紺のドレスはリケジョに全く恥じていなかった。リケジョというのは女性の研究者のことである。涙で潤った目と声で

「私が不注意だったのと未熟だったために多くの不審点が生まれました。私は理研と同僚と多くの人に心から謝罪します。」

「私は論文のなかで間違いを発見したがそれは私の結論に影響意を与えることはありません。」

「私はstap細胞の作製に200回以上成功しました。」

「stap細胞は存在しています。（すなわち彼女の実験結果が正確である）だから私は論文を撤回するつもりはありません。私は他の研究者がstap細胞作製に成功することを確信しています。」と彼女は発言しました。

　他方理研が主導している調査委員会は彼女がnature誌に提出した論文にねつ造され改ざんされたデータがあるという報告をした。その委員会はstap細胞の存在を確信してない。これが小保方氏と理研が対立してる理由である。

　ところで多くの人は彼女に同情したかもしれない、また絶え間ない報道で弱弱しくなった彼女に魅了された人もいるかもしれない。国の後ろ盾がある巨大組織理研に立ち向かう勇敢な英雄のように見えた人もいればマスコミのなすがままになった悲劇のヒロインのように見えるかもしれない。たとえそうであってももっと冷静にこの問題を考えるべきだ。この問題が長引くことも考えられる。慎重に判断をするために一時的な感情だけで判断を下してはならない。理研の予算は我々の税金から支出している。理研は小保方氏も含めこの問題に関して説明する義務がある。たとえ数年間に及んでもすべての調査が終わってから判断しても全く遅くないのだ。
